Edgar Allan Poe spent his life writing about death, madness, and the darkest corners of the human mind. But perhaps the greatest mystery he ever left behind was his own. In October 1849, Poe died under circumstances that remain unexplained more than 175 years later. What happened during his final days? And how did a man who made a living creating mysteries become the subject of one himself? A strange disappearance, unanswered questions, and theories that blur the line between fact and folklore. In 1931, the body of Vivian Gordon was discovered in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. She had been beaten, strangled, and left behind without her expensive fur, jewelry, or purse. But Vivian was not the kind of victim true crime usually knows what to do with. She was a former chorus girl, convicted prostitute, blackmailer, loan shark, and a woman with connections to some of New York’s most notorious gangsters. She had made plenty of enemies. But just days before her murder, Vivian was preparing to tell investigators that a corrupt New York City system had framed her years earlier and destroyed her life in the process. What started as the murder of one complicated woman would soon expose a much bigger world of crooked cops, powerful politicians, gangsters, Tammany Hall, and corruption reaching through New York City. On this episode of Wife of Crime we are going back to a case that has impacted me for over 10 years. Sonia "Sunny" Jacobs and her husband Jesse Tafero were 2 self described hippies who needed a ride when their car broke down. Walter Rhodes, a co worker of Jesse's gave the family that ride and what started off as an innocent favor would turn into a series of events that would change Sunny, Jesse and their 2 children's lives forever! Sunny would spend the next 17 years fighting for freedom in a system that worked hard against her. Through it all she would spend her time in jail spreading love and positivity, teaching everyone she could about the power of meditation. Sunny sadly passed away last year in June 2025. We want to honor her with this episode and use her story as a reminder that no matter what you're faced with keep pushing and keep hope alive. It all starts with your mindset! In Part 2, we slow everything down and take a closer look at the details, the evidence, the timelines, the medical findings, and the theories that try to explain what happened inside that house. Every piece seems to explain something, but never everything… leaving behind a story that, no matter how many times you try to put it together, never fully comes together. In this final chapter, we step back. We talk about what this case did to us, the conspiracy theories like Pizzagate, QAnon, and cannibalism and what happens when public trust in institutions collapses. In Part 2, we go deeper. From Manhattan to Palm Beach, from Zorro Ranch to Epstein Island, we break down how Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell built a global operation recruiters, billionaires, politicians, private planes, and the system that protected them. It’s court records, flight logs, and documented connections. If Part 1 was the storm, this is the inferno, and the question at the center of it is simple: who was protected, and why? Imagine being told you have cancer—a diagnosis that instantly upends your life—and then enduring months or even years of brutal chemotherapy. Now imagine learning that your doctor forced you to undergo three to four times the standard amount of treatment, or kept you on chemotherapy long after you were in remission, all while you believed you were still fighting for your life. Worst of all, imagine discovering that you never had cancer at all—and that your doctor knew it the entire time. These nightmares became reality for hundreds of patients in Michigan under the care of Dr. Farid Fata, an oncologist who betrayed the very people who trusted him with their lives. In one of the most egregious cases of medical fraud in U.S. history, Fata subjected healthy patients—or those with minor, manageable conditions—to unnecessary and devastating cancer treatments, all to enrich himself.
