On this episode, Road Safety @ Rush Hour Podcast host, Bryan Delaney sits down with Theo Agelopoulos, Senior Director of Infrastructure Business Strategy at Autodesk, Inc to discuss the role of Augmented and Virtual Reality in roadway design and transportation safety. Augmented reality (AR) adds digital elements to a live view often by using the camera on a smartphone, where as Virtual reality (VR) implies a complete immersion experience that shuts out the physical world. Agelopoulos discusses how these two technologies could positively impact infrastructure design and engineering.
Agelopoulos and Delaney discuss the benefits of this technology for DOTs and how AR and VR will allow DOT officials to see the road design before it has actually been built, while also identifying potential safety issues before the physical environment is developed.
